Is this going to hurt? I don’t like to be in pain.
Yes, there will be some “pain” associated with my workout programs. This soreness is a result of working a muscle beyond the activity it is used to. However, I consider the soreness that you will endure as a result of the workout to be less what I would call pain, and be more inclined to call it muscle discomfort. This is different than the soreness you feel after spraining a knee or ankle. The muscles that you work will be tender for anywhere from 2-5 days, depending on your fitness level. But I can guarantee you that the memories of the soreness will disappear when you see the results.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
This depends on several factors. How much fat do you have to lose? How disciplined are you going to be with your eating habits and workouts? How much sleep do you get at night? Each of these play a part in helping you lose fat. Notice that I mention losing fat and not weight. Most people, when exercising and eating properly, can expect to lose about 1-4 lbs of fat per month.
Why is losing fat more important than losing weight?
Most of the popular diet programs use weight loss in their promotion and advertising. But, if you concern yourself with what the scale reads rather than how much fat you are carrying on your body, then you are concentrating on the wrong number. For instance, I am approximately six feet tall, and 205 lbs. According to every height and weight chart, including the well promoted BMI chart, I need to lose about 30 lbs to be at a healthy weight. However, if you were to do a body fat assessment, you would see that I carry about 12% body fat, which is a very healthy percentage for an adult male. Don’t worry so much about what the scale reads, worry about how you look in the mirror, how your clothes fit, and how much body fat you carry around each day.
I’ve tried to diet so many times before, why will this program work for me?
I promote a lifetime of healthy eating, not a 2 week or 12 week program. My goal is to help you create healthy eating habits, much different than the habits that make you look the way you look today. Knowing what to eat, why you are eating it, and when to eat it is much more important to me than anything else. I want you to be healthy, active, and free to eat. I realize that everyone has a different lifestyle, and you need to create eating habits that work for you, not ones that work for a publisher.
How much equipment do I need? Do I have to join a gym?
This depends on you. I truly feel that having access to the equipment available in a gym is best in the long run, but you can achieve excellent results using a small amount of exercise equipment. I specialize in training clients in the comfort of their homes, and all the equipment that I use is transported in the trunk of my car. Workouts can be performed by using nothing more than your bodyweight, but using a few dumbbells and a stability ball can give you a much better workout. Some of my clients have started exercising using no equipment, and a few weeks later, decided that it was time to make a minimal investment to keep their progress going. It’s all up to you.
